In collaboration with the University of the West of England (UWE) and the community organization Baggator, the Asian Energy Studies Centre of Hong Kong Baptist University, Department of Geography, hosted an engaging Low-Carbon Cooking Workshop at Cafe Conscious in Bristol. This event continued the
momentum from previous discussions about envisioning a low-carbon future for the Easton and Yate communities, bringing together local residents to explore sustainable cooking practices.
The workshop guided the community on a delightful journey into energy-efficient cooking. Participants enjoyed an exciting culinary experience led by Low-Carbon Chef Joyce Fong and Joshua Warren, who expertly guided them through the preparation of simple yet flavorful dishes. The menu featured a refreshing Chinese Tossed Potato Salad as an appetizer, followed by a hearty Vegetable Curry as the main dish. Chef Fong and Joshua emphasized the importance of using low-carbon ingredients and techniques, inspiring attendees to make conscious choices in their own kitchens.
Another highlight of the event was the Sharing of Energy-Saving Practices session, where the Asian Energy Studies Centre provided valuable tips and strategies for reducing electricity consumption. We led a discussion focused on the positive impact of saving just 1 kWh of electricity—something that may seem small but can lead to significant benefits. Saving 1 kWh can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower energy bills, contributing to both personal savings and environmental well-being. Attendees learned practical ways to achieve this, such as optimizing the use of washing machines and ovens.
